Dr. Sivaraj Mohana Sundaram is a Neurobiologist with vast in vitro and in vivo research experience. His research revolves around peripheral hormones and how they regulate brain metabolism. Following his Ph.D. with Prof. Irmgard Dietzel-Meyer at Ruhr University, he joined Prof. Heike Heuer's lab at the Leibniz Institute for Environmental Medicine for his postdoctoral tenure. After that, he continued his research at the University of Luebeck. He then joined Prof. Michael Sereda at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences at Gottingen to investigate axon-Schwann cell metabolic interaction in CMT1A animal models. In his laboratory, he focuses on understanding how peripheral metabolic signaling affects energy homeostasis pathways in the hypothalamus with his unique research experience on both the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. A combination of cellular, molecular, and electrophysiological techniques is used to accomplish his research project objectives.
