National symposium on the psychosocial intervention of adults with smartphone addiction held at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre

The SRM Alumni Association of the Department of Clinical Psychology, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre arranged a national symposium regarding the problem of Smartphone addiction particularly in the young generation. The symposium was successfully conducted on June 15, 2024, and the participation was quite impressive accompanied by informative and knowledgeable discussions from the experts.

The symposium aimed at Enumerating and rectifying Smartphone addiction was conducted by the core committee comprising six alumni of SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre among the 85 participants who attended the symposium.
Dr. Nitin Anand, Associate Professor at NIMHANS, on identifying smartphone addiction and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Ms. Teena Variampampil, Assistant Professor at Jyoti Nivas College, on causes and societal impacts of smartphone addiction.
Dr. Kavitha V. Jangam, Assistant Professor at NIMHANS, highlighted familial influences and family therapy for smartphone addiction.

Ms. Farisha, a Clinical Psychologist at NIEPMD, addressed social networking causes and consequences of excessive smartphone use in children and adolescents.

The symposium concluded with dynamic brainstorming on how to proceed with practical solutions in addressing smartphone dependency in the future generations influencing their daily lives. In constructing discussions among participants and resource persons, they had healthy and viable meaningful discussions concerning measures to eradicate barriers resulting from the overuse of Smartphones.

The event reflected the college’s dedication in ensuring that they tackle modern issues of mental health and well-being.
