SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre observed the 4th National Pharmacovigilance Week
The Department of Pharmacology, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, celebrated the 4th annual National Pharmacovigilance Week from 17th to 23rd September 2024.
They also took one week to sensitize the health care professionals, students, and other people of society, especially all the PHCs of Bihar, in the matter of ADR reporting and rational use of medicines.
The event featured a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled ‘Navigating Pharmacovigilance: From Fundamentals through Career Growth and Efficient Protective Communication.’ The event welcomed a large number of clinicians, postgraduate students, CRRIs, and MBBS students and conducted a debate on the importance of ADR reporting. The top professionals, including speakers from all across India and Saudi Arabia, deliberated on certain aspects of pharmacovigilance for the participants to grasp further opportunities of the growing field.
Besides CME, two series of workshops were conducted to raise awareness among students and faculty members from medical and paramedical disciplines, including dental, nursing, physiotherapy (BPT), and allied health sciences, respectively. These workshops featured presentations on increasing ADR reporting and understanding their role in patient safety.
Students demonstrate their talent and learning in different contests such as Rangoli, Slogan Writing, Awareness Poster Making, E-Poster, E-Paper Making, Presentation, and Short Movie Making. This participation helped the students to understand the role of pharmacovigilance in healthcare.
Fully aware of the value that can be derived from engaging society more, especially on issues related to drug usage, the department undertook two community sensitization activities meant to raise awareness on safe drug disposition. Faculty members made presentations on topics of non-communicable diseases, the drugs that are frequently used in healthcare, and their standard precautions. The Tamil awareness pamphlets, which enshrine important information on safe pharma use, were circulated to the general public.
The event concluded with an overall focus on creating awareness of pharmaceutical products among clinicians, students, paramedical staff, allied health professionals, and the general public, enabling patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders to recognize pharmacovigilance; hence, celebrating National Pharmacovigilance Week 2024 with the spirit of patient safety and rational use of drugs.
