SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Kattankulathur took part in the AHA International Conference – Resuscitation & Healthcare Quality Summit in Hyderabad on 28th September 2024 at the Convention Centre. The special emphasis of the conference this year was its centenary, thus marking the jubilee anniversary of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The  proposal for  poster presentation to the conference, was accepted for presentation, under the title  “Impact of Simulation-Based Training in Improving Knowledge and Skills in Basic Life Support of Fire and Rescue Service ” The poster was prepared by Prof. Dr. Rachula Daniel, Ms. Evangeline D, Ms. Benita Georgina Mary J, and Mr. Indrajith R of SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre.

The research highlighted the effectiveness of simulation-based training, in enhancing the knowledge and skills, of personnel from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services. It was based on the training, being regularly provided at the SRM Stratus Centre for Medical Simulation, as part of a community outreach initiative, free of cost. The hands-on training, equipped the Fire and Rescue Service personnel with essential Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques, which were critical in emergency rescue operations.

This initiative proved to be useful in practice, but also with more general social concerns. The presentation was appreciated, for being community-oriented and highlighted the role of SRM Stratus Centre for Medical Simulation, in developing the necessary skills in first responders.

The accomplishment underlined the SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre’s theoretical and practical aspect of enhancing health care education as well as community service. This became the testimony of this institution’s commitment to creating a new, more effective approach to increasing public safety, choosing the poster for this historic conference.
