Exclusive Lecture on Nutrition: Addressing Health Challenges at SRM

The SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre successfully organised a comprehensive Nutrition Lecture Program on March 25, 2025, aimed at enhancing the knowledge base of healthcare professionals, students, and researchers in the field of nutrition and weight management. The event underscored the growing importance of multidisciplinary approaches in addressing obesity and metabolic health challenges.

The central theme of the program focused on “The Role of Nutrition and GLP-1 Agonists in Weight Management”. This timely topic highlighted both dietary strategies and pharmacological interventions—specifically the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists—as evidence-based tools in the management of obesity and associated metabolic disorders.

The session was delivered by Dr. Vanita Rahman, MD, DipABLM, Clinic Director at the Barnard Medical Centre, Washington DC-Baltimore Area, USA. Dr. Vanita represented the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which promotes evidence-based nutritional approaches for disease prevention and management. Her presentation provided valuable insights into the integration of clinical nutrition with pharmacological therapies, grounded in both current research and clinical practice.

The lecture attracted a highly engaged and multidisciplinary audience comprising:

● MBBS Second, Third, and Final Year Students
● Nutrition Science Students
● Postgraduate Medical Students
● Faculty Members from Various Departments

This diverse participation contributed to a rich academic environment and facilitated meaningful dialogue on the clinical, nutritional, and public health dimensions of weight management.

Promotion of Healthy Eating Habits

In alignment with the lecture’s core message, 500 nutrition-packed lunches were thoughtfully provided to participants. These meals were nutritionally balanced, reflecting the principles discussed during the session, and served as a practical demonstration of healthy eating.

The key objectives of the lecture were:

~ To enhance the understanding of the role of nutrition in weight management among healthcare professionals.
~ To explore the clinical application and efficacy of GLP-1 receptor agonists in the treatment of obesity.
~ To disseminate scientific evidence on dietary strategies for sustainable weight loss.
~ To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among medical, nutrition, and public health experts.

The Nutrition Lecture Program proved to be a highly informative and engaging academic initiative. The lecture succeeded in fostering a deeper understanding of modern nutrition science and the pharmacological advancements supporting weight management. The event promoted evidence-based learning and reinforced the significance of incorporating healthy dietary habits in both clinical practice and everyday life.

SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre remains committed to providing platforms that encourage continuous professional development and interdisciplinary learning in the healthcare sector.
