Department of Community Medicine Organised Multi-Speciality Medical Camp
The Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMMCHRC), in collaboration with SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) and the Kayarambedu Panchayat, organised a free medical camp on 29 August 2025 at Kayarambedu.
The camp brought together doctors and specialists from multiple departments, including Community Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ENT, Audiology, Ophthalmology, and Dermatology. Their combined efforts ensured that residents of Kayarambedu and nearby areas received accessible and quality healthcare at their doorstep.
The inauguration was marked by the presence of distinguished dignitaries:
- Nitin M. Nagarkar, Pro Vice Chancellor (Medical & Health Sciences), SRMMCHRC
- Sunil Kumar, Former Director General of Health Services (DGHS)
- R. Venkatraman, Medical Superintendent, SRMMCHRC
- M. Logaraj, Associate Dean (Quality Assurance), SRMMCHRC
- Dr. V. V. Anantharaman, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine
Several other senior faculty members and doctors also joined the initiative, reflecting SRM’s strong commitment to community health and outreach.
The camp received a special visit from Mr. Pushpa Raj, President of the Kayarambedu Panchayat, who appreciated SRM’s efforts to extend medical services to underserved communities.
Over the course of the day, 67 outpatients benefited from consultations and treatment at the camp. Among them, 14 patients were identified for advanced care and referred to SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, where they will receive further treatment free of cost under the yellow card scheme.
The camp not only addressed immediate health concerns but also created awareness about the importance of regular check-ups and preventive care. By mobilising medical expertise directly into the community, SRMIST and SRMMCHRC continue to bridge the gap between rural populations and tertiary healthcare facilities.
