The UHV-I module is designed to introduce students to the principles of Universal Human Values, emphasizing self-awareness, personal harmony, ethical understanding, and holistic development—qualities essential for compassionate medical practice.
The program began with an Introduction & Aspirations session led by Dr. Sathyanarayanan, where students explored the nature of human aspirations, the meaning of happiness, and the importance of value-based living in both personal and professional life.
In the Fulfilment & Self-Exploration sessions, students engaged in activities and discussions that helped them understand their basic aspirations, manage internal conflicts, and cultivate personal balance. These exercises encouraged participants to reflect deeply on their motivations and emotional well-being.
The Relationships & Harmony sessions focused on developing empathy, trust, and respect in interpersonal interactions. Students were guided on how these values translate into professional conduct, especially in the sensitive and demanding environment of healthcare.
The course also included discussions on Health & Holistic Living, highlighting the significance of integrating physical and mental well-being into daily routines, and emphasizing a humanistic approach to medical education.
In the concluding sessions on Societal and Ecological Role, students were encouraged to consider their responsibilities toward society and the environment, promoting a sense of social and ecological accountability alongside their professional growth.
A unique aspect of the course was its interactive approach, featuring reflection exercises, self-evaluation tasks, and group discussions that encouraged students to internalize and relate these values to their personal and professional lives. The program concluded with a sharing session, where students expressed insights and transformations they experienced during the course.
The UHV-I Foundation Course successfully laid the groundwork for value-based medical education, equipping future doctors with compassion, integrity, and a holistic understanding of their roles—not just as healthcare providers, but as socially responsible and ethically grounded individuals.
