SRMIST Commemorates 150 Years of Vande Mataram with World Record Attempt
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) organised a world record attempt to mark the 150th anniversary of India’s national song Vande Mataram. The initiative was conducted in alignment with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and under the guidance of the Founder Chancellor, Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar.
As part of the attempt, 3,032 participants, including students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, came together to create the largest human formation depicting the words “VANDE MATARAM.” Participants were dressed in tricolour shades, symbolising national unity and collective pride. The record attempt was held on the SRMIST campus in the presence of representatives from the World Record Union.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST, said that the event reflected the collective spirit of the institution. He noted that the formation demonstrated discipline, coordination, and shared responsibility while commemorating a significant national milestone.
Dr. Karu Nagarasan, Head, Tamil Perayam, SRMIST, highlighted the cultural and linguistic importance of Vande Mataram. He stated that the initiative honoured its 150-year legacy by expressing its spirit through collective human participation.
The event underscored SRMIST’s commitment to national awareness, cultural heritage, and community engagement, marking a memorable tribute to one of India’s most enduring symbols of unity and patriotism.
