PD Workshop Enhances Peritoneal Dialysis Skills Through Hands-on Training

The Department of Dialysis Therapy, SRM School of Allied Health Sciences (SRM SAHS), organized a PD Workshop on Hands-on Training in Comprehensive Skill Building in Peritoneal Dialysis and Exchange Techniques on 5 August 2026. The workshop provided students with practical exposure to peritoneal dialysis procedures and strengthened their understanding of clinical practices in patient care.

The programme was attended by 79 students, comprising postgraduate and undergraduate students, including interns and Semester 5 students of Dialysis Therapy.

The workshop focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of the principles of peritoneal dialysis and exchange techniques while developing practical skills in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) and Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) procedures. It also reinforced the importance of infection control, exit-site care and adherence to safe clinical practices.

A key highlight of the workshop was the integration of simulation-based training, which promoted experiential learning and strengthened collaboration between academia and industry. As part of this academic collaboration, MITRA Industries handed over a CAPD simulator to SRM SAHS, supporting the institution’s ongoing efforts to enhance clinical education and practical training for students.

The event was graced by Dr. V. Jayaprakash, Professor and Head, Department of Nephrology, and Dr. D. Jagadeswaran, Dean, SRM SAHS. Their presence underscored the importance of strengthening practical, industry-supported training in allied health education.

The workshop served as a valuable platform for students to bridge theoretical knowledge with hands-on clinical skills, preparing them for effective and competent practice in the field of peritoneal dialysis.
