SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre Welcomes New MBBS Batch with Inspiring Induction Ceremony
SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre proudly welcomed its MBBS students for batch 2024 on October 21, 2024, with an inspiring induction program at the Hippocrates Auditorium in the presence of all Deans, Directors, and Associate Deans. The event was graced by esteemed faculty members and dignitaries, who delivered motivational speeches emphasizing SRM’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of compassionate, skilled, and research-driven doctors.
Dr. Nitin M Nagarkar, Pro Vice-Chancelor (in-charge) & Dean Medical warmly welcomed the new students and their families. In his opening address, Dr. Nitin M Nagarkar highlighted the institution’s comprehensive medical education programs, including MBBS, MDS, and MCh courses. He noted that SRMMCHRC benefits from a daily patient flow of over 3,000, providing students with invaluable clinical exposure. “At SRM, we are not just teaching medicine; we are fostering a culture of research and innovation, contributing to the rise of medical publications. SRMMCHRC proudly holds the 18th rank in the NIRF rankings, a testament to our commitment to excellence,” said Dr. Nitin M Nagarkar. He further emphasized that “medicine is not just a profession, it is a calling—one that demands compassion, dedication, and lifelong learning.”
In addition to his message, Lt. Col. (Dr.) A. Ravikumar, Advisor urged the incoming students to focus on the three pillars of success in medicine—Academics, Patient Care, and Research. “Our MBBS curriculum is uniquely designed around these pillars, ensuring that our students are not only well-versed in medical theory but are also equipped with hands-on clinical and research experience,” he explained.
In a special address, Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST spoke about the evolving landscape of healthcare and the growing role of technology. He highlighted SRM’s commitment to quality education, noting that the institution ranks 12th among 1,170 universities in India. He urged the students to embrace innovations such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and wearable devices in their practice. “The future of healthcare lies in a shift from individualistic, competitive mindsets to collaborative, patient-centered care. Medical professionals must not only excel in clinical skills but also be adept in leveraging technology to enhance patient outcomes. Remember, healthcare is about more than just treatment—it’s about empathy, communication, and providing hope,” said Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan.
Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), presented the white coat to students during the ceremony.
He further emphasized that preventive healthcare, driven by data and technology, is transforming the way doctors approach patient care. “Wearable devices and real-time health monitoring are empowering patients, and as future doctors, your role will increasingly involve helping patients make informed decisions about their health,” he added.
Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), SRMIST delivered an inspiring address, encouraging students to focus on the “Five C’s—Character, Competence, Commitment, Compassion, and Communication.” He reminded the students of the vital role doctors played saying, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, all temples were empty because the gods were busy saving lives as doctors.”

He further advised the students to uphold the legacy of SRM Medical College and to maintain the name and reputation built by its alumni. “As future doctors, you carry the responsibility of continuing the great work of those who came before you. The world needs doctors who not only excel in their profession but also lead with empathy and dedication,” Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan added.
Students are taking the Hippocratic Oath, marking the start of their medical journey.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Dr. A. Sundaram, Advisor, who extended his heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, parents, and students. He reiterated the importance of three key attributes for a successful medical career—Knowledge, Skill, and Passion—qualities that SRMMCHRC is dedicated to cultivating.
