45th National Conference of Association of Anatomists Tamil Nadu held at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre

The Department of Anatomy, SRMMCHRC, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Association of Anatomists, jointly organized the 45th National Conference of the Association of Anatomists Tamil Nadu held from 14th to 15th September 2024. Focused on the theme ‘A’ Trifecta of Innovation – Anatomy, AI & Advancement.

The conference was graced by the chief guest, Dr. P. Thangaraju, Managing Director, Centre for Medical Genetics, Chennai, in the presence of Lt. Col. Dr. A. Ravi Kumar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (MHS), SRMMCHRC; Dr. T. Mythili, Additional Registrar (MSL), SRMMCHRC; Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Dean (Medical), SRMMCHRC, and other valiant anatomists from different parts of the country, distinguished guests, and anatomists from Tamil Nadu Association of Anatomy.

The conference had a footfall of around 300 participants from various regions across India, such as Nigeria and Mauritius. A total of 161 papers in the form of presentations and posters were delivered by faculties, postgraduates, and undergraduates. The event also included extracurricular activities and competitions for undergraduate and postgraduate students, which recorded high turnouts from various institutions across the country.

Dr. M M Cooper Oration’s address was delivered by Dr. W M S Johnson, President, Association of Anatomists – Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Dr. S. Sreeram, a gastroenterologist from GEM Hospital, Chennai, gave an insightful talk on “Effective Integration of AI in Gastrointestinal Surgery,” while Dr. K. Muthu Prathibha, Professor of Physiology at SRMCHRC, Chennai, shared valuable insights on “Mentoring Medical Students: Current Insights,” were the highlights of the conference.

A core workshop named ‘From Pixels to Precision Measurements’ based on ImageJ Micrometry was conducted by Dr. Yogesh Sontakke & Dr. Dharmaraj W. Tamgire and was attended by 50 active participants.

The conference paved the way for the students to enhance their knowledge, cooperation, ideas, and strengthened their determination for further progress in anatomy, Artificial Intelligence applications, and Medical Education.
