The Department of Orthopaedics at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMMCHRC) successfully conducted a Beginners Spine Hands-on Workshop on 12 April 2025 at the state-of-the-art Simulation Lab. The workshop was designed to offer foundational training in spine surgery to postgraduate trainees and early-career orthopaedic surgeons.

Twelve distinguished faculty members from reputed institutions led the workshop, providing intensive, module-based, small-group training. The comprehensive curriculum included critical components of spine surgery, such as:

● Root block techniques
● Patient positioning
● Haemostasis
● Spine instrumentation
● Pedicle screw fixation
● Dural repair
● Burr usage

A total of 54 participants engaged in the interactive and skill-oriented sessions, which combined theoretical learning with hands-on practice. The close mentorship and focused format allowed participants to gain valuable insights and practical knowledge in a controlled, supervised environment.

The Department of Orthopaedics extends sincere gratitude to the Department of Anatomy and the Simulation Lab team for their unwavering support and technical assistance, which were instrumental in the success of the programme.

This initiative reflects SRMMCHRC’s ongoing commitment to fostering procedural excellence and advancing clinical training through structured and collaborative learning experiences.
