Departments of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics at SRM Medical College & Hospital Organized World Breastfeeding Week 2024
The Department of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week from 1st to 7th August 2024 with a lot of meaningful programs held at the Primary Health Care Centre in Guduvancheri. The week-long celebration focused on the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All” as a way of reiterating the fact that all the people in the community should be encouraged to breastfeed.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh, Block Development Officer of the Primary Health Care Centre, Guduvancheri, who underlined the huge importance of breastfeeding for both the mother’s and child’s health. His initial words made the audience very clear that the entire week was for learning, informing the public, and letting them know about what the community has to offer.
Indeed, it was in the moments between sessions that the participants were able to engage in several awareness activities relating to breastfeeding. The program included a number of presentations by professionals in the field, such as the positive effects of breastfeeding, some of the issues new mothers may come across, and how these can be tackled.
The event also incorporates student-friendly demonstration lectures and PowerPoint presentations from the PG students of the department. They also prepared different lactose-containing foods intending to demonstrate food preparation techniques that lactating mothers should adopt and issued handouts. All these resources were selected to ensure that the mothers are knowledgeable in the true sense and empowered to make sound nutritional decisions for both mothers and their babies.
Brand-associated educational charts and video modules were displayed, highlighting the goodness about breastfeeding and how to breastfeed in the proper way. An interactive question and answer time allowed the expectant mothers and their families to ask questions and express their doubts or get the right advice from operators.
The event was not only a celebration; it also attempted to create awareness and minimize the gap in lactation services within the community. For this reason, the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics continued with such efforts, reasserted its commitment to community health education and healthy practices.
By so doing, SRM Medical College re-emphasizes its commitment to promoting the health of people, especially mothers and infants.
