Medical Camp at Kodungaiyur Reaches 135 Patients Through SRM Community Outreach

The Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, in partnership with REACH and SRMIST, held a community medical camp at Kodungaiyur on November 8, 2025. The goal was simple: bring accessible healthcare to residents who often struggle to reach larger facilities.

The team offered consultations to 135 outpatients across a wide range of specialties. Among them, 52 individuals were identified for follow-up care and were referred through yellow cards for free treatment at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. This referral system ensured that those needing further evaluation didn’t fall through the cracks.

What made the camp work so smoothly was the combined effort of specialists and student volunteers from General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, ENT, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Audiology, and Community Medicine. Each department played a role in helping patients understand their conditions and access timely care.

Dr. Paromita Chakraborty, Professor and Head of REACH, SRMIST, visited the camp and spent time engaging with both patients and volunteers. Her encouragement reinforced SRMIST’s ongoing commitment to community health initiatives and the importance of bringing medical services directly to underserved areas.

The camp closed on a strong note, with plans to return and continue building long-term health support for the Kodungaiyur community.
