National Conference NUTRIBIOCON 2024: A Resounding Success at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre
The Department of Biochemistry conducted the National Conference NUTRIBIOCON 2024 on June 6th and 7th, 2024, at the Hippocrates Auditorium, C Block, III floor, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Kattankulathur. Delegates registered from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.

A pre-conference workshop attended by 40 participants focused on “Diet Prescription and Nutrition Assessment Tools.” Mrs. Varsha Pramod, Registered Dietician & Senior Research Fellow from JBAS College for Women, led the workshop. Emphasizing the practical approach to diet prescription and assessing nutritional requirements, the workshop highlighted the utility of various nutrition assessment tools for different age groups. The session was highly appreciated by the participants. In the afternoon, MD Biochemistry postgraduate oral presentations were conducted.
The main conference commenced with a talk on “Nutritional Challenges in Clinical Setting” by Mrs. Varsha Pramod, who discussed case studies and patient perceptions towards diet and issues related to diet compliance.
Each year, the Department of Biochemistry conducts a Medal Exam for MBBS students to encourage their learning. Last year’s winner, Mr. B.S. Thulasi Krishnan from Karur, was awarded the coveted medal, a certificate, and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
The much-anticipated lecture by Dr. Santhosh Jacob, an orthopedics and spine surgeon, Director of Be Well Hospital, and a social media influencer with over 2.5 million followers, focused on “Nutrition in Bone Health.” Dr. Jacob’s presentation was engaging, dispelling nutrition myths and presenting well-researched facts. In addition to this, a free Bone Mineral Density scanning kiosk was available for participants and staff. After lunch, a quiz on nutrition was conducted, with two teams from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research winning the first and second cash prizes.
During the valedictory function, cash prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of the faculty, postgraduate, and undergraduate poster competitions by Dr. S. Sundarapandian, Professor & Head of Anatomy. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
NUTRIBIOCON 2024 was a remarkable event, successfully bringing together experts and participants to discuss and learn about the latest in nutrition and biochemistry.
