Redefining Serenity: A Path to Reconfigure Your Mental Health

SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, The Department of Clinical Psychology, in association with the Rotaract Club of SRMIST KTR and the Directorate of Student Affairs, jointly organized a Mental Health Awareness Program on the 30th of October 2023. The Mental Health Awareness Program started with a rally at the medical college entrance, inaugurated by Dr. Nitin M Nagarkar, Dean-Medical.

A poster display was held in the SRM University building, for which the B.Sc. Clinical Psychology students made posters on mental health awareness, mental well-being, and psychopathology. The students explained their posters to the visitors of the exhibition. The poster session was followed by a fitness and wellness challenge held at the SRM wellness center with assistance from Mr. Julian Joseph. The challenge included a wellness questionnaire, a plank challenge, and a BMI check. Individual reports are given to the participants after the completion of the challenge.

The afternoon workshop session was inaugurated by Dr. Lt. Col. A. Ravikumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor-Medical and Health Sciences, Dr. Nitin Nagarkar, Dean-Medical, Dr. A Sundaram Advisor MHS, and Dr. Balakrishnan R, Vice Principal, Allied Health Sciences. This session included three presentations by the invited speakers:

1. Dr V Sunilkumar- Clinical Psychologist, Founder of Mind Zone, Chennai
2. Ms Nithya – Clinical Psychologist – Chengalpattu Government Medical College and Hospital.
3. Mr Joseph Julian- Wellness Expert center head – SRM wellness center.

The presentations covered various topics such as mental well-being in students, stress and coping strategies for students, and the importance of exercise in maintaining overall well-being.

This awareness program included 200 participants from various colleges of SRM University. The participants actively participated in all four of the activities, providing insight into their mental health and well-being. This program created awareness of mental health for the student community of SRM University.
