SEED Program: Addressing Diabetes in Persons with Disabilities

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has launched a monthly online program titled “SEED (SRM Education for Empowering Persons with Disabilities) – Rehab Series.

This initiative aims to address the increasing prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) among differently-abled individuals, which significantly impact their quality of life. The inaugural session, held on February 17th, 2024, focused on the theme of “Diabetes among differently-abled,” with a special emphasis on persons with Spinal Cord Injury (with Paraplegia/Quadriplegia).

The program highlighted the need for customized diabetic management strategies tailored to the physical abilities of wheelchair-bound individuals. This initiative underscores SRMIST’s commitment to enhancing the well-being and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
