SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre is pleased to share a significant academic milestone from the 15th International Congress on Cleft Lip/Palate and Related Craniofacial Anomalies, where Ms. Elanthendral Chandrasekar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, represented India as one of only ten delegates.

Ms. Elanthendral delivered an invited scientific presentation titled Motor Learning–Based Therapy for Cleft Palate Speech: Articulatory Kinematics and BArT as Effective Solutions. The study is part of the ongoing work of the SRM Centre of Excellence of Comprehensive Cleft Care – SMILE TRAIN Project, supported by SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre.

During her session, she also drew attention to the current landscape of cleft conditions in rural Chengalpattu, outlining gaps in access and awareness. She proposed a research model tailored to the needs of rural and suburban communities, emphasizing practical pathways to improve early identification and therapy outcomes.

This research was carried out with the support of co-investigators Ms. Navitha U, Associate Professor, Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and Dr. Pasupathy M, Smile Train Chairperson, Department of Plastic Surgery.

The presentation reflects SRM’s commitment to advancing cleft care through scientific inquiry, clinical innovation, and community-focused research.
