SRM Medical College Conducts Community Nutrition Awareness Programme at Orathur Government School
As part of National Nutrition Month 2025, the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, organised a community awareness programme at Orathur Government School on September 4, 2025.
The event was held under the theme “Healthy Food, Healthy Future” (ஆரோக்கியமான உணவே, ஆரோக்கியமான எதிர்காலம்) and aimed to spread practical knowledge on balanced eating, food safety, and the role of nutrition in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.
To make learning interactive and engaging, the programme featured a puppet show, nutrition-themed games, awareness talks, and visual chart displays. Students were encouraged to actively participate, ensuring that key messages about healthy eating were not only understood but also remembered.
A major focus of the initiative was to promote the use of locally available, cost-effective, and nutrient-rich foods. This approach aligns with the community-driven goals of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, which seeks to connect institutions of higher education with villages to build sustainable models of development.
Faculty and student volunteers from the department guided the sessions, emphasising that good nutrition is not about expensive diets but about making informed choices with what is available at home and in the local market.
Speaking about the initiative, organisers highlighted that nutrition awareness at the school level can go a long way in shaping healthier lifestyles for future generations. The programme reflects the department’s continued commitment to community health education and its belief that investing in nutrition is investing in the nation’s future.
