SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre Inaugurates World Breastfeeding Week 2025
The Department of Paediatrics at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre inaugurated World Breastfeeding Week 2025 with an insightful session focused on the vital role of breastfeeding in early childhood development and survival.
The event was graced by Dr. S. Srinivasan, Expert Advisor for Child Health, National Health Mission (NHM), Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Srinivasan is also the Former State Nodal Officer for Child Health, Member of the MNCU Expert Group (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India), Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Chapter of the National Neonatology Forum (TN NNF), and Registrar of the Institute of Child Health (Retired).
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Srinivasan highlighted the life-saving impact of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, the role of health systems in supporting lactating mothers, and the broader public health implications of improved neonatal nutrition. His experience and expertise in the field offered valuable insights to faculty, students, and healthcare professionals in attendance.
The session also underscored SRM MCHRC’s continued efforts toward promoting awareness on maternal and child health through community-based initiatives and clinical excellence.
World Breastfeeding Week is observed globally from August 1 to 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. This year’s observance at SRM MCHRC sets the tone for a week of educational activities, outreach programs, and collaborative efforts aimed at supporting new mothers and improving infant health outcomes.
