SRM Medical College Hosts Basic Orthopaedic Surgical Skills Workshop in Collaboration with Anatomy Department
The Department of Orthopaedics, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRM MCH&RC), in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, successfully conducted a Basic Orthopaedic Surgical Skills Workshop on 14th June 2025. The event took place at the SRM Medical College premises and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 80 students and trainees from various medical disciplines.
The workshop was inaugurated and guided under the leadership of Dr. A. Sundararaj, Dean, Medical, SRM MCH&RC, and Dr. N. Duraipandian, Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics. The Anatomy Department was represented by Dr. R. Rajesh, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, whose team played a crucial role in supporting the cadaveric demonstration and anatomical guidance throughout the sessions.
The workshop focused on building fundamental orthopaedic surgical skills through a combination of faculty-led lectures, cadaveric demonstrations, and hands-on training. Key highlights of the program included:
● Cadaveric demonstration of surgical approaches to the distal femur and proximal tibia
● Fracture fixation training using saw bone models
● For the first time in an Orthopaedic workshop at SRM, the use of a virtual dissection table, providing a 3D anatomical exploration experience
Expert teaching faculty, including Dr. T. Vijay, Dr. V. Mahendran, and Dr. V. Balaji, guided the sessions, providing valuable clinical insights and surgical techniques to the participants.
The event was coordinated by Dr. K. Selvakumar, Associate Professor, Orthopaedics, along with a dedicated team of postgraduates and interns who contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the workshop.
The Department of Orthopaedics extends sincere thanks to the management of SRM Institute of Science and Technology for their continued support and for providing state-of-the-art infrastructure. Special appreciation is extended to the Anatomy Department, the participating faculty, and the students who made the workshop a resounding success.
This workshop reflects SRMMCHRC’s commitment to advancing clinical skills, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and integrating innovative tools in medical education.
