SRMIST-KTR Organised Awareness Session for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Students

As part of the University Wellness Program, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur (SRMIST-KTR), organised a thought-provoking session titled “Addiction: Genetic Destiny or Learned Behaviour?” aimed at raising awareness about substance abuse and its multifaceted causes.

The interactive session was conducted exclusively for students from the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, emphasising the importance of understanding addiction not only from a societal and medical standpoint but also within the framework of communication sciences.

The program highlighted both genetic and environmental factors influencing addiction, sparking critical discussions on whether addictive behaviours are inherited or shaped by one’s surroundings and experiences. Through case studies and evidence-based insights, students were encouraged to examine their perceptions of addiction and explore how they, as future healthcare professionals, can contribute to early intervention and advocacy.

The event was held under the guidance of the department faculty and was well-received by the students for its engaging and informative format. This initiative reflects SRMIST-KTR’s ongoing commitment to student well-being, professional preparedness, and a deeper understanding of public health concerns.
