World Mental Health Day on the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right”

The Department of Psychiatry, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, SRMIST, Kattankulathur, observed World Mental Health Day on the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right” on October 10, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Hospital Seminar Hall.

In the lead-up to World Mental Health Day celebration, several events took place:
– A poetry competition in both English and Tamil on October 6th.
– A mic drop competition in both English and Tamil on October 6th.
– A short film festival on October 7th.
– A poster competition on October 7th.

On October 10, 2023, guest speakers including Dr. Muralidharan Kesavan, Medical Superintendent and Professor of Psychiatry at NIMHANS, Lr. J. Raja Samuel, a renowned High Court Advocate, and Dr. Elumalai, Head of the Department of Human Rights at The Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, were invited to deliver talks.

The event was attended by Lt. Col. Dr. A. Ravi Kumar, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. T. Mythili, the Additional Registrar, Dr. Nitin. M. Nagarkar, the Dean Medical, and Dr. R. Arul Saravanan, the Head of Psychiatry, along with faculty members, staff, and students from SRMIST. Prizes were distributed to the competition winners. The event also featured a role-play on Psychiatric Social Work performed by the students, which was appreciated by everyone.
