World Health Day 2025: Towards a Lifetime Healthier World

The Department of Community Medicine marked this year’s World Health Day with a grand celebration aligned with the WHO theme: “Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future” on March 9th 2025. The event was graced by Dr. Srinidhi Chidambaram, Vice President – Health Communications and Consultant – Quality Initiatives, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, as the Chief Guest.

In her keynote address, Dr. Srinidhi Chidambaram emphasised that achieving the WHO’s vision extends beyond hospitals—it begins in our homes, schools, and communities. She underscored the vital role of Community Medicine in addressing holistic well-being, especially for women and children, who require integrated care from pre-conception through the postnatal period. Her insights highlighted the importance of programs targeting NCDs, family planning, lifestyle management, mental health, and the need for legal frameworks and policy support.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean, Medical, SRMMCHRC, who delivered the inaugural address. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Dr. M. Logaraj, Associate Dean (Quality Assurance), SRMMCHRC and Prof. Dr. K. V. Leela, Associate Dean (UG), SRMMCHRC, also shared her thoughts on the occasion. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. V. V. Anantharaman, Head, Department of Community Medicine.

The Department of Community Medicine team worked seamlessly under the guidance of Prof. Dr. V. V. Anantharaman and Prof. Dr. M. Logaraj, and the event came to life through the coordinated efforts of Associate Prof. Dr. P. Kaveri, Organising Coordinator, and Dr. L. Padmavathi, Assistant Organising Coordinator.

Preceding the main celebration, a month-long series of competitions and events saw enthusiastic participation from over 800 students. A short video capturing these vibrant moments was screened during the event, followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the winners.

Adding to the spirit of awareness, a mime show and a public rally were organised, flagged off by Dr. Venkatraman, Medical Superintendent, SRMMCHRC and Mr. Dinakaran, General Manager, SRMMCHRC. The Department Newsletter was unveiled by the Chief Guest, Dr. Srinidhi Chidambaram.

The World Health Day 2025 celebrations left a lasting impact—not just through words and awards, but through the collective effort of a committed team, thoughtful planning, and an unwavering focus on community well-being.
