SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Chengalpattu, has achieved a significant milestone by treating the 5,00,000th beneficiary under the Government of Tamil Nadu’s Innuyir Kappom – Nammai Kakkum 48 scheme and inaugurated the new Red Zone of the Advanced Trauma & Emergency Ward.

The scheme provides free, life-saving emergency medical care to road accident victims during the first 48 hours, ensuring timely intervention without financial burden. The milestone highlights the hospital’s critical role in implementing the state’s emergency trauma care framework.

The event was attended by Mrs. Varalakshmi Madhusudhanan, MLA, Chengalpattu; Dr. S. Uma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary; Dr. S. Vineeth, IAS, Director, Tamil Nadu Health Scheme; Mr. Venkatesan, United India Insurance Scheme Manager; Dr. Nithin Nagaraj, Vice Chancellor and Dean, SRM Medical College Hospital; Dr. T. Mythili, Additional Registrar; Dr. R. Venkataraman, Medical Superintendent; and Dr. V. P. Chandrasekaran, Associate Dean, Super Speciality (MHS), along with senior faculty members and hospital administrators.

The Innuyir Kappom – Nammai Kakkum 48 scheme has emerged as a pioneering public health initiative, enabling rapid emergency response, coordinated trauma care, and cashless treatment for accident victims across Tamil Nadu.
