SRMIST NSS and UWP Organise Road Safety Awareness Drive at Chengalpattu

The Road Safety Awareness Program on the theme Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha was organised on 29th January 2026 at Chengalpattu Raatna Keenaru, near the bridge leading to Tirukazhukundram. The initiative was jointly conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the University Wellness Programme (UWP) of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, in association with the Commissionerate of Transport and Road Safety, Chengalpattu RTO, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The program aimed to promote awareness of road safety regulations, responsible driving behaviour, and the prevention of road traffic accidents among the public and students. Key messages focused on compulsory helmet usage, wearing seat belts, avoiding mobile phone use while driving, and strictly following the principle of “Don’t Drink and Drive.”

The session began with an orientation on essential road safety rules and common causes of accidents. NSS and UWP student volunteers actively engaged with motorists and pedestrians by distributing awareness pamphlets and explaining safe road practices. A vibrant flash mob performance drew the attention of the public, creatively reinforcing critical safety messages and preventive measures.

The outreach initiative received a positive response from the community and effectively highlighted the importance of responsible driving. The collaborative effort strengthened public awareness and reaffirmed the commitment of the organising bodies to promote a culture of safety on roads.
