SRMIST-KTR Welcomes Over 1,500 Freshers to Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences with Grand Induction Ceremony
SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur campus, conducted a grand Induction Ceremony to formally welcome the new batch of students to its Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The event saw the participation of over 1,500 first-year students from the College of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, School of Public Health, and Health Sciences.

Dr. Nachiketa Rout, Director of the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, addressed the students, highlighting the importance of interprofessional collaboration in modern healthcare. He noted that SRMIST provides a unique platform where students from diverse disciplines learn together, nurturing mutual respect and understanding. He emphasised that the future of healthcare depends on collaborative efforts among doctors, therapists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals. His message encouraged students to grow together as compassionate and competent individuals.
Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, congratulated the freshers and spoke about the enriching and inclusive environment at SRMIST. With over 70% of students coming from outside Tamil Nadu, he underlined the multicultural exposure and interdisciplinary learning opportunities the institution offers. He highlighted SRMIST’s standing among the top 1% of institutions in India and encouraged students to make the most of the academic, research, and entrepreneurial platforms available. He reminded students that healthcare is not only about knowledge and skills but also about compassion, resilience, and ethics. He encouraged them to build strong connections with mentors and patients and to uphold the highest standards of integrity throughout their journey.
Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor (i/c), Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, emphasised the critical role that healthcare professionals play in society. He called on the students to remain empathetic, responsible, and ethically grounded, reminding them of the significant responsibilities that come with their chosen careers. He noted that healthcare is not just a profession but a calling that demands lifelong learning, humility, and dedication.
Adding further value to the event, Dr. B. Rajashekhar, Advisor, Allied Health Sciences, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, stressed the growing importance of Allied Health Sciences in delivering holistic healthcare. He pointed out that SRMIST has already met and exceeded standards in infrastructure, hospital exposure, faculty, and research, even before the establishment of national regulatory councils. He encouraged students to explore the wide range of opportunities available in diagnostics, public health, innovation, and healthcare entrepreneurship.
A special online message from distinguished SRMIST alumnus Dr. Jayanth Panyam, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, University of Washington, USA, was shared during the ceremony. He reflected on his academic journey and enduring connection with SRMIST, offering words of encouragement to the new students.
The programme concluded with the formal introduction of the deans, associate deans, and senior faculty members, marking the official start of the academic year. The induction ceremony set a tone of inspiration, purpose, and collaborative learning for the incoming batch.
