Ultimate Victory: SRM Medical College’s Journey in Special Olympics
The Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025, the world’s largest sports event for individuals with intellectual disabilities, was successfully held from March 8th to 16th in Turin, Italy. This prestigious international event brought together 1,500 athletes from 100 nations, each displaying extraordinary skill, determination, and resilience on a global platform.
India’s participation in this esteemed event was nothing short of inspiring. A 30-member Indian contingent showcased their unwavering commitment and talent, bringing home an impressive 33 medals, a feat that fills the nation with immense pride.

SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre – A Pillar of Support
A significant aspect of this victory was ensuring the health and well-being of our athletes as they competed in the extreme winter conditions of Italy. SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre takes great pride in being a part of this historic achievement through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Karthikeyan Ramachandran, Associate Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As the Medical Officer for the Indian delegation, he played a pivotal role in maintaining the health and fitness of the athletes, helping them perform at their best despite the challenging weather conditions.

Reflecting on this remarkable experience, Dr. Ramachandran shared “Managing the health and fitness of our athletes in extreme lower temperatures was indeed a challenging experience. However, with their determination and the unwavering efforts of our coaches and support staff, we triumphed with 33 medals. The highlight of our journey was the warm reception upon our return, culminating in a motivating and inspiring meeting with our Honorable Prime Minister, which encouraged the entire contingent.”
