About Us


  • The Department of Psychiatry at SRM was started in the year 2005.
  • The department is headed by Prof. Dr. R. Arul Saravanan MD, DPM, and comprises Consultant Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurses, and Social Workers along with other staff members.
  • All the modern psychological techniques that are being used are available in our department.
  • Rigorous teaching and training programs that balance theory and clinical demonstration, using both direct, online, and hybrid modes are our hallmark.
  • The outpatient department receives patients from all walks of life, with problems that range from minor mental disturbances to major disorders.
  • Our Faculty members actively provide services for these, including child guidance as well as suicide prevention services and consultation. They also conduct lectures on stress management for the students, faculty, and the industrial population.
  • The department has very good in-patient facilities. Special care is taken for addiction cases and motivational interviewing.
  • Our Special clinics include Neuropsychiatric, Geriatric & Memory Clinic, Psychosomatic & Chronic Pain Clinic, Suicide Prevention Clinic, OCD Clinic, Sex & Marital Clinic, De-addiction Clinic, and Children and Adolescent Clinic.

Academics


  • Ph.D. in Psychiatry and Integrated Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Work are offered - both full-time (with a monthly stipend) and part-time. Three Full-time Research Scholars are currently pursuing their Ph.D.
