Blood Donation Rally Marks World Blood Donor’s Day Celebration at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre

In commemoration of World Blood Donor’s Day, which falls on June 14th, 2024, the Department of Transfusion Medicine at SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre organized a blood donation rally on June 12th, 2024. The rally served as a platform to raise awareness about the crucial need for blood donation within the SRM campus community.

Led by Dr. R. Raj Bharath, Professor & Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, the rally commenced at the entrance of SRM Tech Park. Dr. Nitin .M. Nagarkar, Dean of SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the significance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of blood donation awareness in society.

Further insights into the importance of blood transfusion for surgical patients and those battling medical illnesses were shared by Dr. Venkatraman, Medical Superintendent, SRMCH&RC, and Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director of Campus Life, SRMIST. Dr. Lakshmanan, NSS Programme Advisor, SRMIST, and Dr. Jagadeesh, NSS Programme Advisor, SRMIST from NSS Pharmacy, urged the student community to actively participate in blood donation drives.

The rally, flagged off by Dr. Nitin .M. Nagarkar, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 60 individuals, including students and faculty members. Carrying banners and placards inscribed with bilingual slogans promoting blood donation, the participants traversed through SRM Hospital, culminating their journey at the SRM University building.

As part of the event, volunteers were adorned with caps and badges bearing the inscription, “World Blood Donor’s Day 14th June 2024,” further reinforcing the message of gratitude towards blood donors. The rally echoed with fervent chants advocating for blood donation, resonating with the theme of this year’s World Blood Donor’s Day: “20 years of celebrating giving: Thank you, blood donors!”

Expressing gratitude to all participants, Dr. Kingsley, Associate Professor of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, delivered the vote of thanks marking the conclusion of a successful and impactful blood donation rally.
