National Millets Summit- 2023 Workshop

The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre participated in the National Millets Summit- 2023 workshop organized by NIFTEM (Tanjore) and SRMIST on 6 th and 7 th May-2023. Our Students exhibited more than 50 millet based therapeutic recipes in the allotted stall, for educating the public on the theme ‘Millet recipes of therapeutic value’. Baked foods, steamed foods, fermented foods and millet based health drinks were exhibited as healthy alternatives.

Banners were made based on the theme- ‘Medicinal Role of Mighty Millets’. Food pyramid model was exhibited and students also planned a balanced diet with millet recipes and displayed it traditionally on the banana leaf. Audio-visual aid was prepared pertaining to departmental activities and was played in loop. To enhance our student’s entrepreneurship skills a few millet
recipes were kept for sale.

The Dignitaries including Vice Chancellor -SRMIST, Registrar – SRMIST, Director and delegates – NIFTEM, Dean- SRM Agriculture Sciences, Dean – SRM Hotel Management , Government official, HOD’s and faculties of medical college and our constituent colleges
visited the stall. Our most respectable Dean sir –SRM MCH RC visited the stall and appreciated the efforts of our students and faculties. The stall had good public feedback as many were unaware of recipes that could be prepared from millets. Samples of the recipes were distributed to the public for tasting. An applauded feedback was received from all the delegates.

The students and faculty attended the workshop for two days .The Department was awarded with a Memento by The National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management –Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T).
