SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre organized the Aphasia Awareness Program
The Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (DASLP) at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMMCH&RC) organized an Aphasia Awareness Program to commemorate Aphasia Awareness Month. The event, held on June 15, 2024, aimed to raise awareness about aphasia, a communication disorder resulting from brain damage.

A special mention goes to Dr. Roshni Mary Peter, Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, SRMMCH&RC, who graced the occasion with her valuable presence.
Student Competitions
The program featured various student competitions themed around “Aphasia Awareness,” including Rangoli, Handmade Poster, Reels, and Short Film competitions. These events were designed to engage students and faculty in creative expression while spreading awareness about aphasia.
Rangoli Competition: Held on June 5, 2024, on the ground floor of the medical college. It was coordinated by Ms. Sivaranjini, Clinical Supervisor G-I, and Ms. Joanna, Clinical Supervisor G-II, DASLP. The competition was judged by Dr. Jayalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, and Mr. Ramshankar, Associate Professor, DASLP.
Poster Competition: Students submitted their posters on June 11, 2024. The event was coordinated by Ms. Navitha U and Mr. Prabhu, Assistant Professors, DASLP, and judged by Ms. Prasitha, Associate Professor, and Ms. Khaarthika, Clinical Supervisor G-I, DASLP.
Reels and Short Film Competition: Submissions were made on June 12, 2024. Coordinated by Ms. Ruba and Ms. Elanthendral, Assistant Professors, DASLP, and judged by Ms. Prasitha, Associate Professor, and Ms. Pavithra Ravi, Clinical Supervisor G-I, DASLP.
The prize distribution ceremony took place on June 15, 2024, at Lecture Hall 4, Room No. 202, Second Floor, SRM Medical College. The event commenced at 10:00 AM, welcoming a large footfall of undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with faculty members from the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. The winning entries in the Rangoli, Poster, Reels, and Short Film competitions were displayed and screened during the ceremony.
Chief Guest and Felicitations
Dr. Roshni Mary Peter served as the chief guest for the event. She was felicitated with a flower bouquet by Mr. Ramshankar and Ms. Prasitha, Associate Professors in the Department of ASLP. Prizes for the competitions were distributed by the guests and faculty members of DASLP.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Ramshankar, Associate Professor in DASLP, marking the end of a successful awareness program.
The Aphasia Awareness Program was meticulously organized by Ms. Ruba S, Program Coordinator, and supported by MSc SLP II semester students. Special thanks to all the faculty members and clinical supervisors who coordinated and judged the competitions.
