World ORS Week celebrated at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre

Reversing the trend in a special gesture to check dehydration, the Department of Pediatrics, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre joined hands with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics IAP Chengalpattu to celebrate World ORS Week. The scientific conference was organized to raise awareness on proper management of dehydration through the use of ORS and zinc.

During the education week, several activities were carried out for a week with emphasis placed more on creating awareness among the mothers and the public on the use of ORS in saving lives. On the ongoing treatment of dehydration, Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Dean (Medical) further explained the role of ORS constituents, glucose, and electrolytes. He explained the World ORS Week message to the students and participants while stressing on how the solution helps to decrease mortality and morbidity induced by dehydration.

One of the activities that formed part of the event entailed a demonstration of how to prepare and administer ORS. This practical session enabled the audience to discover the appropriate procedures entailing the preparation and administration of ORS so that they will be ready to implement these skills in the field. The demonstration also affirmed the chance that would enable the participants to ask questions and clear any confusion on the handling of ORS.

The event effectively created awareness about ORS and zinc among the community to enable them to address the issues of dehydration befittingly. The community participation in the celebration of the importance of practical education greatly supplemented the general objective of enhancing the standard of health in the general population and the effects of dehydration-related diseases.
