SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre Celebrated World Health Day with Nutrition Awareness Camp at Kolathur Village
In observance of World Health Day, the Department of Clinical Nutrition, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, in collaboration with Unnat Bharath Abhiyan, organized a Nutrition Awareness Camp “My Health, My Right” in Kolathur Village, Chengalpattu district on April 30, 2024, for self-help group women.
The camp was aimed to enlighten participants on the prominence of preserving nutrients during cooking and to advocate for overall well-being through informed dietary choices.
Event Highlights:
The event had various sessions to educate attendees on nutrient preservation techniques while cooking. Informative posters adorned the venue, addressing topics such as the usage of different cooking metals, the implications of plastics in cooking and serving processes, the benefits of whole grains and sprouts, dietary considerations for PCOS, bone health, and anemia.
Students showcased skits emphasizing correct cooking methodologies and strategies to create awareness of the meal’s protein content. Additionally, educational videos were screened, illustrating optimal cooking temperatures for vegetables, home gardening techniques for microgreens, and methods to retain the color and nutrients of vegetables.
Engaging quizzes were conducted to reinforce participants’ understanding of nutrient-preserving techniques. Ms. Nandhini G delivered a comprehensive discourse on balanced diet principles, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
The camp served as an invaluable platform for the community to grasp the significance of nutrition in sustaining good health. It empowered individuals to make well-informed dietary choices, paving the way for a healthier lifestyle.
