About Us


  • The Department of Pediatrics was established in the year 2005 and is a tertiary care centre with 120 Pediatric beds, including 20 PICU beds and 20 NICU beds.
  • Our Paediatrics department is designed based on a child-friendly environment and a family-centered team supporting child health care.
  • The spectrum of healthy and sick children reaching this department for clinical care provides the students with unparalleled opportunities to learn and serve.
  • Problem-solving and research are central to the academic programs in the department.
  • The department has a regular teaching program for undergraduate (M.B.B.S) and postgraduate (MD Pediatrics) students, as well as a PhD program in Pediatrics.
  • Students are placed under highly qualified faculty members who have wide experience in teaching innovatively and effectively with state of art teaching methods.
  • Modern methods of Teaching are being followed routinely for academics. Our department is conducting Periodic Student assessments and Parent-teacher interactions.
  • The department has published more than 40 scientific papers in the last 3 years in indexed journals of national and international repute.
  • PG Eligibility : Pass In MBBS or its Equivalent Degree recognized by NMC (Canditates completing the CRRI / CRMI on or before 31st March of the Year) NEET PG score as prescribed by NMC.

Our Mission


  • To improve child health care through excellence in patient care, teaching, and research.
  • Centre of Excellency and Tertiary Referral centre for treating complicated & very sick cases in PICU.
  • Establishing the NICU unit as a referral centre catering to Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Dindivanam & all other nearby districts in the state.
  • To adopt modern teaching methodologies in teaching UG and PG students and make SRM top rank in academics.
  • To involve all faculties in active research and guide PhD candidates.

Academics


  • MBBS - 250 Students per year.
  • MD - 6 Students per year.
  • Ph.D. in Paediatrics and Integrated Ph.D. with other domains are also offered, both full-time (with a monthly stipend) and part-time. Currently, 6 students are pursuing a Ph.D. in Paediatrics.
  • Competency-Based Medical Education for MBBS students.
  • Small group tutorials for teaching knowledge domain and bedside clinical classes for clinical skills teaching.
  • Electives, Early clinical exposure, Clerkship model of clinical postings, Integrated and problem-oriented teaching, case-based learning, self-directed learning, and simulation-based learning are some of the novel approaches to teachings we are adopting.
  • Objective-based assessment is both formative and summative.
